FRIDAY 16-09-22
As expected, it was a nothing day today, and my word it was another hot one. It has been at least as hot as yesterday. It's currently 17:30 and it's still 31°C.
So today was chores day. All the housework, the bed stripped and sheets washed, hand washing and ironing done and a bit of sit down between it all. The campsite, though not a big one, was very quiet during the day. I said to The Chef I wondered where everybody would go when it was so hot. She suggested they were all sat in air conditioned bars drinking beer and having lunch. And she was probably right.
What I love about motorhoming is that you never stop learning. There's often something new to discover, often the hard way, or a bit of advice from a fellow camper. Well yesterday we struggled to keep the heat out of the vehicle because the habitation door needed to be open, even though it did have the piece of net curtaining we created to put across it. Today was bedding washing day, and because we don't have the necessary trees to tie a washing line between, and the airer was needed for the hand washing, I suggested that when we unfurled the awning, we should wipe down the steel supports and hung the sheets from them. Well not only did it work a treat for drying them, but the sheets also gave us excellent additional shade from the sun and once also pegged to the habitation door handle, did a great job of keeping it out of the vehicle interior. So I've noted that on my usual list of jobs and problems to look at when we get home. I'm thinking that maybe a dark coloured king-size sheet hung and pegged in the same way as today would give us effective additional shading. We shall see.
It was also quite hot in the bathroom yesterday. This is because my small cheap folding net shading gizmo, held up by a suction pad, has finally given up and fallen to the floor and died. I thought I had a spare one onboard. I have spares of most things, but I can't find it and so I've put a couple of pieces of bacofoil up on the roof light. I'm so glad I used to watch Blue Peter. Following tradition, the bacofoil is held up with sticky back plastic. It seems to be working a treat, so I think I may leave it up there until we get home.
I also had the mucky job of cleaning the barbecue. It really is the downside of having a barbie. Mind you I suppose it must be a fairly healthy way of cooking because without the barbie, all that grease and fat on the griddle would have been eaten.
Tomorrow we are off in to Nice for the day. Although it's the weekend we hope it won't be too busy for us to find somewhere to have lunch. I'm only taking my small digital video camera. Ironically enough, it was bought in Nice a few years ago after my Sony camcorder, which gave me excellent results in High Definition, packed up. I've discovered I can take pretty reasonable still pictures with it as well, so now I don't have to carry two cameras around.
On Sunday we plan a short hike inland to look around the old town of Villeneuve-Loubet, and on Monday we plan to go to Antibes. I think I will check with Reception to see if there are any restrictions around here on the day of the queen's funeral. We don't want to get there and find everywhere shut, like they are at home where even Food Bank's are shutting for the day, it's crazy. Perhaps those who run them have calculated that all their 'clients' will be down the pub watching it all on TV.
