After a second night spent at a local campsite (N50.972434 W2.670251) it was a short journey to Wells for a whistle-stop tour round their cathedral and town centre. All very nice. Next we were off to the Gower Peninsular, South Wales, to enjoy three nights of continual wind and rain. The wind being so strong at times that it was difficult to get the habitation door open and shut. We managed a coastal walk on the first day but didn’t even venture out on the second, such was the weather. We just sat around reading and watching telly whilst bouncing around in the wind.

After visiting Rosina’s family we made our way home only two and a half weeks in to the trip very unimpressed with motorhome touring in the UK, and something we won’t hurry to do again, except for short breaks, going directly to one campsite or area.

ARMISTICE
As we had made a number of visits to Flanders and the Somme areas in the past I thought it would be rather nice to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of The Great War at the Menin Gate in Ypres. I had hoped to book a pitch at the town’s campsite but having been given duff information by them a couple of years ago regarding when I could book, we were unsuccessful in getting a pitch there. So off we set with our folding bikes onboard just in case we could find nowhere to park in town overnight, and would have to bike to town from somewhere in the surrounding area.
Luckily we found a spot in the car park of the town’s swimming pool (GPS: N50.844796 E2.894052), along with numerous other motorhomes. That was a huge relief.
Now as we all know the Great War ended at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. But which eleventh hour? Was it 11:00 GMT or 11:00 local Belgium time?
I’d contacted the folk at the wonderful Commonwealth War Graves Commission and asked that question. They got back to me telling me that at the end of that war there was not the one hour difference therefore 11:00hrs was the same time both in the UK and Europe.
