I hate British winters. In fact we both hate British winters. It was one of the major factors in deciding to buy the motorhome. It would allow us to drive south to Spain escaping to sunnier, warmer weather.

Our first such trip was two years ago when we arrived in Spain to spend December, January and February there. That particular trip does not feature on this blog as I was careless enough to erase my diary notes for the trip.

We are not very Christmassy people, but I have to say we did miss the little we do participate in. It was all very nice sunbathing on a beach near Marbella  on Christmas Day, but it just wasn't the same. We therefore decided that in future we would probably head south on alternate years and set out just after Christmas.

That is what would have happened this year were it not for our planned Norwegian cruise, which would result in our heading for Spain about three weeks behind schedule.

The plan for this trip is to travel from Portsmouth to Santander, northern Spain by ferry, and then drive to Benicassim, north of Valencia on the Mediterranean coast. We are booked in to Bonterra Park campsite www.bonterrapark.com where we will stay for about six weeks though this is totally flexible. From there we plan to go touring.

We'll head south, through Granada, down towards Gibraltar, then Cadiz, Jerez, Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, Aranjuez, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca, Burgos, then in to France visiting the Bordeaux area initially, then who knows where, as we make our way back towards Calais. We have not booked a return ferry crossing preferring to leave that flexible.

Please feel free to join us, as we set off on yet another adventure as independent travellers and all the buggerations that will no doubt accompany it.
